FLUTE AND PICCOLO REPAIR 101 A Diagnostic Approach to Flute/Piccolo Emergencies with Jeff Weissman Jeff Weissman, President of Weissman Music, will conduct an informative repair clinic focusing on diagnosing flute and piccolo issues during The New York Summer Music Festival (NYSMF) on Friday, August 6, 2010, 4:30 PM, at SUNY College at Oneonta. This educational 1 hour session addresses a common dilemma that plagues every flutist -- small repairs that seem like giant problems. Topics covered will include simple adjustments, removing moisture from pads, reattaching felts, understanding springs and action as well as other "life-saving" flute and piccolo repair techniques followed by a Q&A session. "While there is no substitute for a highly skilled, master technician, occasionally there are situations in which a flute is completely malfunctioned where all that is required is something as simple as tightening a pivot screw," says Weissman, a flute and piccolo craftsman and builder for over 3 decades. Mr. Weissman will also cover repairs that flutists should not attempt on their own. "Flutists can save lots of grief and money if they simply assemble and disassemble the flute correctly," says Weissman. "This eliminates distorted tenons, scratched barrels and bent keys." The session will include a 10 minute illustration of proper flute handling technique using a volunteer from the audience. A meet and greet with Jeff Weissman will take place from 12:30 PM -- 1:30 PM.
